Garden inspection after the snow storm!

After the snow storm last week the temps have reached about 70f today.

First inspection of the garden today and I discover the Vivax bamboo has quite a bit of damage! Several of the 40 foot culms have broken about half way up from the weight of the snow and ice.

But on the positive side of things– crocus are blooming!

So today will be a garden day! A day of cleaning up the tons of limbs knocked out the trees by the snow and cutting down the damaged bamboo. I will probably also clean the vegetable garden beds as our last killing frost is usually the second week of March so it’s about time to sow seeds for lettuce, arugula, and radishes – my favorite spring vegetable!

  1. Are you getting today’s snowstorm? We dropped 40 degrees from yesterday, but no freezing rain here. It’s nice to know spring is on the way.

  2. It’s hard to tell you had a snow storm here. We had a heat wave of near 50 degrees F yesterday, but not a speck of lawn in sight, yet. (New England.) The crocus looks great… I’m sure I have a few somewhere down under a foot or so of snow.

Do tell me about your bamboo, though. I’m having it become invasive, and difficult to remove. Are some varieties better than others?

Is it time to start sowing seeds for beans and peas too? I’m in Raleigh!
